Is it good for everybody?

As mentioned in a previous post, wereke has several properties
  • Anti inflammatory
  • Anti diabetic
  • Antirheumatic
  • Helps to prevent skin issues
  • Helps to control the risk of cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack and stroke
  • Painkiller
Does it mean that it is good for everybody? Not necessarily.

Taking wereke is not recommended for the following people
  • Pregnant women: It could cause miscarriage
  • People with sensitive stomach: Taken in excess, it can work as a purgative
Although its toxicity is close to null, it is not recommended for babies and medical supervision is always advisable, as with any other dietary supplement.

What is wereke

Definition
Wereke is a plant that can only be found in the Sonoran desert. There are several articles describing its medical properties, mainly around controlling the blood sugar level. It is also known as wereque, guereque, guereke, wereque, wareki, huereque, huereke and even choyalhuan. We will most often refer to it as wereke for simplification purposes. Scientific name is Ibervillea sonorae.

Habitat
As mentioned above, it can only be found in the Sonoran desert and it seems to be extremely difficult to grow. In our specific case, we have only been able to find it wild and in remote areas. You can see below what it is geographically known as the Sonoran desert, shared between US and Mexico. However, this plant seems to only grow in very specific areas of the Sonoran part of it.

Properties
Wereke is known to be an antiseptic, antirheumatic and most importantly, antidiabetic. It has proven to lower the blood sugar level. It does purify the blood and the lymphatic system as well.

Available formats
It is commercially available in several web sites and even homeopathic stores in the US and Mexico. In most cases, it comes in combination with many other plants. This is due to the difficult process to naturally obtain the root of the wereke, which is the part of the plant providing all the properties described above.
